Oak Cliff Mardi Gras Parade

As of 2-3-20, the Club has applied for parade acceptance and paid the $100 entry fee deposit. We are now awaiting notice of acceptance. This year, Mardi Gras is Tuesday, Feb. 25th (Fat Tuesday). The parade is held on the previous Sunday, February 23rd.

The parade is sponsored by "Go Oak Cliff", an association of Oak Cliff retail businesses. They have a few rules that all participants must follow (the fine print): 

-THIS IS A FAMILY-FRIENDLY PARADE. No nudity, obscenities, or lewdness will be allowed. 

-Participants may not hand out paper, literature, fliers, push cards, or anything that easily becomes litter. 

-Dallas open container laws are in effect for participants and spectators.  

-Dallas traffic laws apply. All motorized vehicles must show proof of insurance and a valid drivers license at line up.

-Each car must also be decorated for Mardi Gras.

-Drivers and passengers may wear costumes/masks. (Drivers should not wear masks if doing so will prevent the safe operation of your Jaguar)

-Each car must have a minimum of five gross of "throwables" (bead necklaces, small stuffed toys, wrapped candy, etc.). Moon pies are a traditional Mardi Gras "throwable"! 

Five gross is 720 items (12x12=144 x 5 = 720). Five gross is barely enough for the huge crowds that attends this parade. 30,000 spectators attended last year in cold but, dry weather. One of our members tossed out over 1,400 items at last year's parade...and ran out before the end of the parade. 

Do NOT buy your beads from a Party City store since you will be paying high (retail) prices. An order of 5 gross or more is sufficient to buy wholesale at: MardiGrasBeadsForLess.Com. 5 gross of 7mm 33" assorted color beads are on sale right now for $37.79 (+ shipping) but, don't wait until it is too late for delivery. ABC Party on W. Davis in Oak Cliff (Dallas) also sells beads in bulk.

All Jaguar models and year of manufacture are welcome to participate. Coupes are welcome. For those who have sunroofs, a passenger may stand up and throw beads! 

All club entry participants must be 2020 dues-paid since the Club is paying the $100 entry fee. We may be limited to ten cars....awaiting clarification. As of 2-7-20, we have already filled nine of the ten spots. Contact the Parade Coordinator, Clark, with your intent today: cakirby49@att.net . First ten members get confirmed spots (we will take stand-bys when we fill up). Do not delay!

Please have a pair of car door-size paper/cardboard signs made (Office Depot stores) for your car that identifies our entry. Measure your Jaguar's door's length and height to determine the size.
